Concert Review: Luke Tuchscherer

April 11, 2019
Green Note Basement, London

“You sold the place out!”
Luke Tuchscherer was in playful mood, hamming up the sold out show for the benefit of the audio recording before cracking a huge grin and acknowledging the small size of Green Note’s basement venue. The audience members knew they were lucky to have a golden ticket to witness something special.

The set spanned solo and The Whybirds work. To give a sense of the back catalogue he had to work from, there were six albums for sale at the piano; the venue was that small that there was no room for a merch desk!

Tuchscherer packed in over 20 songs in two sets, including some bonus Townes Van Zandt and Dylan covers. Other highlights included an early The Whybirds cut, Ghosts.

He turned in an engaging performance  as a troubadour on just electro-acoustic guitar and harmonica. Quite a preview for his shows in Leicester (July 18), Bedford (July 19) and London (July 20) with his band The Penny Dreadfuls.
