Tenille Townes has built a reputation for well-observed, hard-hitting, heartbreaking songs like her number 1 singles Somebody’s Daughter and Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking). With that in mind, it says something significant about Villain In Me when she admits “this song terrifies me.”
She explains “I feel more hungry for honesty than I ever have in my life before and that hunger is carrying me to a much more personal anchor in my songwriting…The lonely time at home forced me to sit in the uncomfortable and vulnerable emotions and this song is a safe place for me to be open.”
The Juno and ACM award-winning Canadian country artist is gearing up for her first headline U.S. tour, named after Villain In Me. She has previously supported Brothers Osborne, and will open for country legends Reba and George Strait in 2022.
Although she’s gone deep and self-critical for her latest release, Tenille Townes also champions self-belief and empowerment. Her video for Girl Who Didn’t Care featured Alyssa Carson who has attended every space camp worldwide, Sarah Fuller who was the first woman to play and score points in a Power Five College Football game, and Shannon Wells who is a military firefighter.
Incredibly, Tenille Townes has raised over $2 million for charity. The annual Big Hearts for Big Kids fundraising concert that she launched when she was 15 (!) has helped keep the doors of the youth shelter in her hometown open to support vulnerable kids aged 12-17. The most recent fundraiser was particularly star-studded, featuring Brandi Carlile, Mickey Guton, Ashley McBryde, Dierks Bentley and Luke Combs. It generated over $436,000 in donations to be shared by Sunrise House and a Girl Scouts troop for girls in Nashville who don’t have a permanent home.
