The band were always more trailblazing and nuanced than many of their contemporaries. Their single Change (In The House of Flies) was a key example. Since then, they’ve incorporated elements of shoegaze and psychedelia into their evolving output.
The success of Deftones’ eighth album, Gore, proved how vital they remain. It debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Fan devotion is palpable. This particular fan, Leigh Warnell, is the writer and director of 2020 blockbuster The Invisible Man and Upgrade. He and the band collaborated on the cinematic video for Deftones’ single Ceremony.

Alongside their musical impact, the band have ensured they make a difference through charity too. In 2020, they launched an innovative campaign encouraging people to ‘adopt a dot,’ referring to one of the 12,995 dots that made up the cover art for their album Ohms. The fans responded in droves by uploading photos to add another dimension to Frank Maddocks’ artwork, This initiative raised $105,000 which was shared between UC Davis Children’s Hospital and Crew Nation.
