The new Tarragon single features Tame Impala’s Julien Barbagallo

Previous Tarragon singles have been championed by both The Independent and BBC Introducing, and the new album features a wealth of collaborations including members of The War on Drugs and The 1975 and Bon Iver contribuors. Here, we take a look at the new Tarragon single featuring Julien Barbagallo of Tame Impala.

The new Tarragon single, Blueprint

Tarragon’s Callum Pickard is UK-based singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. On the new Tarragon single, Blueprint, he serves up acoustic pop with shimmering guitar, electronics and vocals. Tame Impala drummer Julien Barbagallo provides the driving bounce underpinning the track.

Blueprint lives in the fragile, electric space of first love. It traces the thrill of early beginnings, where each moment becomes something to hold onto, where nothing is certain, but everything feels possible…The beauty of missteps, the courage in taking risks, and the way two people slowly begin to understand not only each other, but themselves in the process.”

– Callum Pickard

Polymath Pickard produced, mixed and engineered the song, with additional production from Latin-GRAMMY nominated producer Juan Ariza. The mastering engineers have serious pedigree too. We’re talking Greg Calbi (John Lennon, Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen) and Steve Fallone (Pet Shop Boys, The Strokes, Kurt Vile).

Due to Tarragon’s strong track record and support, Blueprint has already been supported by BBC Introducing and other outlets, especially in the West Midlands.

Leading Tarragon singles

The Blueprint collaborators also worked together on the previous single, Tucked In Despair, which could be considered a sequel to the latest Tarragon single. It’s about getting used to the everyday feelings of a developing relationship.

Tucked in Despair sees Pickard’s guitar, piano and electronic work accompanied by a brass section made up of Bon Iver’s CJ Camerieri (flugelhorn, French horn) and The 1975’s John Waugh (tenor saxophone).

Alongside Pickard’s own drum and percussion programming, there’s also percussion by JT Bates (Big Red Machine) and additional percussion and electronics from James McAlister (The National, Sufjan Stevens, Gracie Abrams).

The first single, Kiss Me On The Line (featuring My Brightest Diamond) also examines the burgeoning relationship. It’s about inner doubts and questions that arise when trying to decide if someone is right for you. It’s yet another star-studded track with collaborations from John Waugh, The War on Drugs’ Dave Hartley (bass) and Robbie Bennett (electronics), and Bobby Hawk (Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Taylor Swift) on strings. It was picked as BBC Introducing Coventry’s Track of the Week.

Tarragon’s new album, Home At Cofa’s

The route to this record was less glamourous than the famous collaborators would suggest, but no less important. Pickard raised the funds by working as a COVID tester, a Deliveroo cyclist and (now) a postman. These public-facing roles gave him a way to observe Coventry and the people co-existing there with a simultaneous sense of detachment and immersion. In particular, Reel Lives was influenced by his time as a COVID tester. This pattern mirrors how Pickard works musically; solo but with talented musicians on the periphery.

“It’s been a labour of love…I wanted to go the extra mile.”

The album Home At Cofa’s, is named after the Cofa’s tree that gave Coventry its name. This indie electronica record is out May 1, 2026.
