Mayday Parade are taking the First Train Out of Here

We all want to take the first train out of here right now. With a new single called First Train and an EP called Out of Here, Mayday Parade are making it happen!

The video, which was directed by Scott Hansen, features Stranger Things actor J. Gaven Wilde. Its concept of standing up to a bully really chimes with the theme of the song. Frontman Derek Sanders explains that “First Train is about not getting weighed down by the negative things in your life. It’s about having the power to move forward and become whatever you want to be.”

That sentiment makes it the perfect follow up to Lighten Up Kid. Drummer Jack Bundrick describes it as “trying to find yourself and the strength to keep fighting for what you believe in.”

The third track on the EP, I Can Only Hope, touches on loss. It’s particularly meaningful for Bundrick: “Simply put, it’s about my father. He recently had some medical issues in Georgia and being that I live in California, I felt so far away. The song is about being terrified.”

Out of Here is a follow up to the band’s 2018 album Sunnyland, which has been streamed over 62 million times! The EP was recorded in March 2020 and is coming out during the longest stretch of Mayday Parade’s 15 year career without performing a show. They’re looking forward to ending that unlucky streak with festival appearances next year.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for live streaming performances – we’ll keep you posted!
