What a time to be alive! Not only does the legend that is Bruce Springsteen still walk – and tour – among us, but he still has the power to surprise. We’re on the verge of the release of seven Bruce Springsteen ‘lost albums’ spanning from 1983 to 2018. From rumoured to real, just like that!
Bruce Springsteen lost albums: SEVEN never heard full-length records!
The limited edition collective package uniting the seven unreleased records will be called Tracks II: The Lost Albums. Out on June 27, 2025, on Sony Music, it’s a 9 LP vinyl or 7 CD box set featuring 83 new tracks. We’ll say that again to help it sink in: 83 new Bruce Springsteen songs!! Well, new in the loosest sense, since some go back over 40 years to 1983!
“I often read about myself in the 90s as having some ‘lost period…really I was working the whole time. [During the pandemic] I finished everything I had in my vault.”

Each constituent record will have distinctive packaging. There will also be a 100-page cloth-bound hardcover book with rare archival photographs, liner notes for each album from essayist Erik Flannigan, and an introduction on the project from Mr. Springsteen himself.

Prices vary depending on retailer and your preferred format, but at the time of writing it’s on pre-sale at £279.99 for the 9 LP set or £229.00 for the 7 CD set from Amazon or HMV. Here’s a longer list of retailers plus digital pre-save options too.
There’s clearly a lot of value there, and such a bonanza would have been considered priceless to superfans until this set was announced, but obviously it won’t fit every budget. There is another option though. A companion set called Lost And Found: Selections from The Lost Albums will also be released on June 27. This will feature 20 highlight tracks from the 7 album collection, spread over 2 LPs or one CD.
There’s also some sweet looking accompanying merch worth a look.
The Bruce Springsteen Lost Albums were compiled by Springsteen with producer Ron Aniello, engineer Rob Lebret, and supervising producer Jon Landau at Springsteen’s Thrill Hill Recording in New Jersey.
Seven lost albums?!
Losing a couple of songs, maybe even an album or two, is understandable – but seven? Springsteen explains that they were, in fact, very much remembered: “The Lost Albums were full records, some of them even to the point of being mixed and not released. I’ve played this music to myself and often close friends for years now. I’m glad you’ll get a chance to finally hear them. I hope you enjoy them.”
Thanks, Bruce, we will. Brutal way for your mates to find out whether or not they’re ‘close friends’ though!
“The ability to record at home whenever I wanted allowed me to go into a wide variety of different musical directions”

1. LA Garage Sessions ’83
A self-explanatory title; these recordings from 1983 are hotly anticipated for serving as the missing link between Springsteen’s seminal albums Nebraska and Born in the U.S.A.

2. Streets of Philadelphia Sessions
The existence of Streets of Philadelphia Sessions was long rumoured. It was previously known amongst fans as the ‘loops record.’ After writing the Oscar winning soundtrack song Streets of Philadelphia, Springsteen explored a growing interest in contemporary 90s music, especially West Coast hip-hop.

Although the 1992-1993 touring band plus Patti Scialfa, Soozie Tyrell and Lisa Lowell were involved, Springsteen was the primary instrumentalist for these sessions. After studying a CD of drum samples, Springsteen began making his own loops with engineer Tony Scott, then layered in all the keyboards and synths. Mission accomplished: the keys/synth aficionado here at Music Closeup HQ has been playing the focus track Blind Spot on repeat since it was unveiled.
It bodes well for the record, as Blind Spot is evidently the heart of the album. Springsteen explains that concepts of doubt and betrayal permeate the record: “That was just the theme that I locked in on at that moment. I don’t really know why. Patti and I, we were having a great time in California. But sometimes if you lock into one song you like, then you follow that thread.”
This is one of the enigmatic ‘lost’ records that was fully completed and mixed. It even had a spring 1995 release planned! Instead, however, he reunited with The E Street Band for the first time in seven years.
Springsteen remembers thinking: “Well, maybe it’s time to just do something with the band, or remind the fans of the band or that part of my work life. So that’s where we went. But I always really liked Streets of Philadelphia Sessions.”
“I always put them away, but I don’t throw them away”

3. Faithless
Faithless has a poetic backstory as a long-lost soundtrack to a “spiritual Western” movie that was never made. Faithless was recorded between November 2005 and April 2006, in other words between the end of the Devils & Dust tour and the release of We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. Lyrically and sonically, it covers themes of purpose, belief, and acceptance. Four of the pieces are instrumental interstitial pieces for the mythic film about the mythic American West.
“This was a really unusual collection of songs. You could recognize details and maybe a character or two. But for the most part, I just wrote atmospheric music that I thought would fit.”
Bruce Springsteen
Springsteen wrote the soundtrack in Florida over a two week period, before a single scene was shot. Although a solo effort, there are appearances by producer Ron Aniello, touring members of The E Street Band (Soozie Tyrell, Lisa Lowell, Curtis King, Jr., Michelle Moore and Ada Dyer), plus family members Patti Scialfa, Evan Springsteen, and Sam Springsteen.

4. Somewhere North of Nashville
So far, we know that Somewhere North of Nashville combines country combos with pedal steel guitar running throughout. Remember that short song called Somewhere North of Nashville appeared on Springsteen’s 2019 album Western Stars.
Although this might superficially seem to place the Somewhere North of Nashville record at the latter end of the 1983-2018 box set timeframe, that could be a red herring. We might instead be going towards the other end of the extreme, since a version of Janey, Don’t You Lose Heart was a Springsteen B-side in 1985, after a Stevie Nicks version was reportedly rejected over a lyric change. Intriguing! Will we be introduced to a new Springsteen arrangement, perhaps? More information when we get it.
Somewhere North of Nashville Tracklist
- Repo Man
- Tiger Rose
- Poor Side of Town
- Delivery Man
- Under A Big Sky
- Detail Man
- Silver Mountain

- You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone

5. Inyo
Here’s another of the Bruce Springsteen lost albums that’s currently a mystery. All we know so far is that it’s a collection of ‘richly woven border tales.’ Sounds wonderful. More details TBC.
Inyo Tracklist
- Inyo
- Indian Town
- Adelita
- The Aztec Dance
- The Lost Charro
- Our Lady of Monroe
- El Jardinero (Upon the Death of Ramona)
- One False Move
- Ciudad Juarez
- When I Build My Beautiful House
6. Twilight Hours
This one is described as ‘orchestra-driven, mid-century noir.’ We’re intrigued!
Interestingly, as part of a collection that includes a soundtrack for a movie that never was, the track I’ll Stand By You appears to have connections to two separate movies. Springsteen reportedly wrote it after reading the Harry Potter books to his children. It was under consideration for use in the film franchise but ultimately rejected. A version later appeared on the soundtrack for the Springsteen inspired film Blinded By The Light.
Twilight Hours Tracklist

- Late in the Evening
- Two of Us
- Lonely Town
- September Kisses
- Twilight Hours

7. Perfect World
Intriguingly, a song from the final lost album was the first to be released when this box set was announced. The electric, anthemic track Rain In The River is evidently emblematic of an album described as having ‘an arena-ready E Street flavor.’
Perfect World Tracklist
- I’m Not Sleeping
- Idiot’s Delight
- Another Thin Line
- The Great Depression
- Blind Man
- Rain In The River
- If I Could Only Be Your Lover
- Cutting Knife
- You Lifted Me Up
