Tread carefully, dear reader, for once you hear actor/producer/singer/songwriter Djo’s single Basic Being Basic it will never leave your head. Ever. You may as well lean into it and check out the new album, The Crux, and the upcoming Djo UK tour dates too.

Meet Joe Keery AKA Djo

Djo Bio

Djo (pronounced Joe) is the musical moniker of Joe Keery. He came to prominence as an actor, especially when constantly on the verge of stealing the show on Stranger Things as part of the superb ‘Scoops Ahoy’ double-act with fellow actor/musician Maya Hawke. He also appeared in Fargo, the television show.

However, Joe/Djo is no Eastenders-style actor turned musician for novelty’s sake. He’s been making music since his teenage years and spent time in the Chicago-based band Post Animal. He is also an award-nominated songwriter and producer in his own right. Djo earned an ‘International Song of the Year’ BRIT Award nomination for End of The Beginning, the smash single from his second album, DECIDE.

Plus, Djo’s new single Basic Being Basic is bloody brilliant, shot through with synths and falsetto. It’s basically the deadpan singalong of the summer. Every summer. Forever.

It’s in your head now. Forever. You’re Will Byers and Basic Being Basic is the Mind Flayer. Sorry/not sorry. It happened to us too.

Here, have another version for good measure. After all, the keyboard player deserves to have his efforts recognised.

Djo Stats

Djo’s BRIT Award nominated single End of the Beginning hit number 1 on the Global Spotify chart. Pretty impressive, right? Wait for it. End of the Beginning ended 2024 as the number 6 most streamed song in the entire world in 2024, with 1.5 Spotify BILLION streams and 60 BILLION TikTok streams!

It made it to the official single charts in 41 countries; ranking Platinum or Gold in 17 territories. Here, it reached number 4 on the UK Official Singles Chart and made it on to BBC Radio 1’s coveted A-list. Not too bad, pal!

Djo UK tour dates

Bringing it back full circle, the Djo – Back On You tour will feature his old bandmates Post Animal as support on the North American, EU and UK tour dates.

Having just finished the Australian and North American legs of the tour, Keery will be be heading over here in June for the UK and Europe shows. Having recently impressed at Coachella, Djo’s early summer schedule takes in several more festivals plus a handful of open-air shows with Noah Kahan. He’ll be rounding out the tour by returning to the legendary Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, not far from DePaul University where he studied acting.

Sadly – albeit unsurprisingly – the Djo UK tour dates are already sold out, even after two extra nights at the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London were added. Keep an eye on it, though. You never know with Djo.

The Crux album by Djo

Djo’s eagerly anticipated third album, The Crux, was released on April 4, 2025, on AWAL. It was co-produced by Keery and his long-time collaborator Adam Thein. It adds guitar work and other instrumentation to the synths Djo was known for on the previous albums. Instead of more bedroom recordings, it was tracked at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, where Keery lives when he isn’t on tour or on set. He wrote all the songs alone or with Thein.
