Black Futures have been described as sound anarchists, and that goes some way to explaining the look of their latest video. An anonymous breakdancer in full HAZMAT protective gear and sunglasses dances through the streets of Tokyo in the rain. The song starts out reminiscent of Silverchair’s Freak, with which it shares the ‘body and soul’ refrain and a post-grunge vocal approach, but that soon dissolves into a screamo-EDM interlude.
The footage is from Expedition 001, a voyage around the world during which they also called at a hippy commune in Joshua Tree and an abandoned Russian Cold War bunker in Berlin.
The debut album, Never Not Nothing, is pitched as a collection of apocalyptic anthems and will be out on August 30, 2019.
Their live shows are famed for being wild and anarchic; you can check out the HAZMAT suited performers at summer festivals and in October supporting Black Peaks.
