Tarek Musa’s certainly been busy recently. As well as performing on and self-producing the Dead Nature EP – which we recently reviewed as art rock meets chart rock – the former Spring King frontman and award-winning producer also produced Calva Louise’s new single Belicoso. the video is as raucous as the song – just watch out if you have a dental phobia!
The multinational band with members hailing from Venezuela, France and New Zealand has plenty of other famous supporters too. BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Radio 6’s Steve Lamacq. They were also picked to support acts as diverse as Razorlight, The Maine and Albert Hammond Jr. on tour. Hammond Jr. proclaimed “nothing in my head would make me feel like when I heard them. I’m smitten!”
Rather than resting on their laurels, the band experimented with more alternative sounds than on their indie debut album Rhinoceros. The rationale is simply creative: “We’re kind of like nomads, we go where the music goes.” Seems like the decision has paid off – the song had made it to Spotify New Music Friday playlists in the UK, U.S. and Colombia.
