Ed Cosens found a way to support the music venues that supported him

Six Ed Cosens playing on stage

We’re all missing live music venues; Ed Cosens is no exception. So when he got the chance to film his new video at his hometown Sheffield’s iconic venue The Leadmill, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. 12 hands, in fact!

Rob Nicholson of Sheffield film and photography studio Pedalo helped Cosens create a clever, high key one-man band video to suit the retro song while complying with the latest social distancing requirements.

The Leadmill was, thankfully, recently saved from closure during Music Venues Trust’s #saveourvenues campaign supported by artists like Frank Turner and Cosens himself. He explained: “without the grassroots venues [Oasis] and countless other bands played while developing and growing, the musical landscape of this country would be vastly different.”

Cosens should know. He played grassroots venues with Alex Turner and Matt Heiders before they were in Arctic Monkeys and he became the guitarist and co-songwriter in Reverend and The Makers.

Cosens found a way to give back by streaming a special set to raise money for Music Venue Trust a day after the release of his new record. The event will stream on Facebook at 7 pm on April 10, 2021.

Despite all his experience, Cosens’ debut solo album has been a long time coming – “It’s only taken 10 years or so for me to find the confidence!” he joked – and it’s been delayed a little bit more with everything going on in the world.

While you wait for Cosens’ mid-career debut album, Fortunes Favour, you can explore his recent short film series for recent singles If, The River, and Madeline:
