Moon Tooth: prog-metal Fiona Apple cover!

Posted on

We’re huge fans of Fiona Apple at Music Closeup HQ. So, we had to take notice when we heard that metallers Moon Tooth had covered her classic song Fast As You Can.

You know what? It works! In the stripped-down live acoustic setting, it’s remarkably faithful to the original. Guitarist Nick Lee explained why: “The thing that really convinced me it had to happen was a live video that came as a bonus for the Idler Wheel… album.  The chords for that verse riff always struck me as being very heavy and her vocal delivery is always so raw and in your face.”

The Moon Tooth Fiona Apple cover is one of eight songs on the Violent Grief Sessions EP, out now digitally on Pure Noise Records. A companion piece, Violent Grief: Acoustic Selections is also available. Original songs on the EPs are reworkings of tracks from Crux, which received over 100,000 streams in the first week of release in 2019.

If you like Moon Tooth’s acoustic vibe, check out the acoustic version of their single Nymphaeaceae.
