Formed in 1998 and still going strong, OC rockers Thrice are giving back to their loyal fans after yet another successful year. That’s why you’re getting new Thrice UK tour dates, an acoustic version of the fan-favourite song Scavengers AND a new single! Enjoy!
What inspired the new Thrice single, Dead Wake?
Firstly, let’s look at the new single. Dead Wake exemplifies the introspection and instrumentation that courses through the band’s latest album Horizons/East, which is out now on Epitaph Records.
“This is a tune we were working on during the Horizons/East sessions but hadn’t completed. I’ve always been fascinated by songs that only have one chord progression but feel expansive and varied through the use of shifting melodies and layers and we wanted to play with that format here.”
Dustin Kensrue, vocalist
What does the acoustic version of Scavengers sound like?
Next up is the bonus fan content is the acoustic version of Thrice’s hit Scavengers. There’s a different kind of grit and growl in Kensrue’s voice for this one because it’s coloured with vulnerability. It’s a fitting creative choice for a band that can effortlessly switch from intense post-hardcore tracks to aching piano ballads and back again.
Which acoustic songs have Thrice previously released?
They previously treated us to two acoustic cuts from their 2020 session with SirusXM’s hard rock channel, Octane.
Thrice are known for experimentation, having already blended screamo, beats and pretty much everything in between. That’s why they jumped at the chance to deconstruct their songs Just Breathe and Better Bridge.
“We nearly always start songs with instrumental parts and craft melodic structure around those parts, and so it’s a process of discovery when we do a stripped-down project like this and cut things away to find the core of the song.”
Dustin Kensrue, vocalist
